With all this lovely warm weather the seedlings that we planted a couple of weeks ago are germinating well and giving us the excitement of looking forward to our first crop.
First up are the lettuce seeds Lollo Rossa which are doing well indoors.

In a couple of weeks these will be ready to plant out under cover (frost protection) and quite soon after will be ready for cropping. When they have reached this stage I plant the next round of seeds so that there is a succession of great salad throughout the summer.
Next up are the radish seeds. These indicated that they would be ready to eat in 4 weeks on the packet – I think that may be a touch optimistic but at least they have now germinated and a couple of weeks of warm weather may well see some of the stronger plants being ready by then. Again I have now sown the next batch so that I have a continuous supply.

The next seedlings to show are spinach which I will treat slightly differently. Although these are cut and come again plants much as the lettuce we have planted I anticipate these will last longer before needing replacement so I will wait a month or so before replanting some more seeds. I am also limited in my space availability and whilst I could plant them in the borders they are not that attractive as plants!

Finally for now my Chilli seeds have also germinated on the kitchen window sill and already have my taste buds going in anticipation!

Growing your own is so rewarding even before you get to taste your produce and I hope that I have shown here that it is very easy to do. Enjoy it and see what you can grow.
